Through short stories Thanh-Van Tran-Nhut tells of her childhood memories, focusing on her fondness of sweet things and colorful food: redolent soup stalls in Hue, polychrome delights in a hippie-bedecked campus of Michigan, vivid culinary discoveries in a village in France, as well as incursions into the subtile cuisine of T’ang China and seventeenth century Viet-Nam.
